H
Harmonic Mean Calculator
The right average for rates, such as speeds over equal distances.
Result…
How it's calculated
H = n ÷ Σ(1 ÷ xᵢ)
Drive 60 km at 40 km/h and 60 km at 60 km/h and your average speed is the harmonic mean, 48 km/h, not 50. Use it to average rates over equal amounts (distance, money spent) and for price-earnings ratios. It is never larger than the geometric or arithmetic mean.
