s²
Variance Calculator
The average squared distance of your numbers from their mean.

How it's calculated
Sample: s² = Σ(x − x̄)² ÷ (n − 1) Population: σ² = Σ(x − μ)² ÷ n
Variance measures spread in squared units, which is why the standard deviation (its square root) is easier to read. It is what adds up across independent variables, so it is the form used inside most statistical tests. Choose "sample" unless your data covers the whole population.
