How it's calculated
Tip = bill × tip% ÷ 100 Total = bill + tip · Each = total ÷ people
Works out the tip as a percentage of the bill, then splits the total evenly. Rounding up gives each person a whole amount and the tip grows a little; the effective tip shows by how much. Customs differ: in some countries service is already in the bill.
