Weighted Grade Calculator
Your course grade from each category's grade and weight, and what you need on the work still to come.

How it's calculated
Weighted grade = Σ (grade × weight) ÷ Σ weights Needed on the rest = (wanted × 100 − Σ grade × weight) ÷ (100 − Σ weights)
Each grade counts in proportion to its weight. If the weights add up to 100 the answer is the course grade; if they add up to less, it is your grade on the work marked so far, and you can see what you need on the rest; if they add up to more, they are scaled to 100 and the page says so. Some teachers grade by total points instead of weighted categories, which can give a different answer; your syllabus says which. For a single final exam use the grade calculator, and for a 4.0 GPA the GPA calculator.

About the Weighted Grade calculator
This weighted grade calculator works out your course grade when each part of the course counts for a different share, such as homework 20%, quizzes 15% and exams 25%. Type each category on its own line with its grade and weight; a grade can be a percentage or a score such as 45/50. If your weights add up to 100, the answer is your course grade. If they add up to less, the rest of the course is still to come: you see your grade so far, and, with the grade you want, the score you need on the remaining work. If they add up to more than 100, the weights are scaled in proportion and the page tells you. Every step is shown with your numbers. Schools differ in how they weight and round grades, so check your syllabus. For a plain average with weights of any kind, try the weighted average calculator.
How to use it
- In “Categories: name, grade and weight, one per line”, type each part of the course, for example “Midterm 78 25”.
- Write a grade as a percentage (78) or a score (45/50); write the weight as a number (25).
- Enter the “Course grade you want” if part of the course is still to come.
- Read your weighted grade, the total weight, and what you need on the rest.
Worked example
Homework 92 (weight 20), Quizzes 85 (15), Midterm 78 (25) and Project 88 (20). The weighted points are 1,840 + 1,275 + 1,950 + 1,760 = 6,825, and the weights add up to 80, so the grade so far is 6,825 ÷ 80 = 85.31%. The last 20% is still to come. For a 90% course grade you need (90 × 100 − 6,825) ÷ 20 = 108.75% on it, which is out of reach without extra credit; with 100% on the rest you would finish on 88.25%.

Questions people ask
How do I calculate a weighted grade?
Multiply each grade by its weight, add those up, and divide by the total of the weights. 90 at 50% and 80 at 50% gives (90 × 50 + 80 × 50) ÷ 100 = 85.
What if my weights don't add up to 100?
If they add up to less, the calculator treats the rest as work still to come and shows your grade on what is marked so far. If they add up to more, it scales them in proportion and says so; check your syllabus in case a weight was typed wrong.
How do I work out what I need on the rest of the course?
Needed = (grade you want × 100 − the weighted points you have) ÷ the weight still to come. If only a final exam is left, the grade calculator does the same for one exam.
Is a weighted grade the same as an average of my grades?
Only when every part has the same weight. A low grade on a heavily weighted exam pulls the course grade down more than the same grade on a small quiz.
Can I enter weights as decimals like 0.2 and 0.3?
Yes. If the weights add up to exactly 1, they are read as fractions of the whole course, so 0.2 means 20%.
Why does my school's portal show a different grade?
Some courses add up total points instead of weighting categories, drop the lowest score, or round at different stages. The calculator follows the weights you enter, so match them to your syllabus.
