How it's calculated
F = k × x E = ½ × k × x²
Hooke’s law says a spring pushes back in proportion to how far it is stretched or squashed. The spring constant k says how stiff it is: a k of 200 N/m needs 10 N for 5 cm. Past the elastic limit the spring deforms permanently and the law stops applying. The shaded area under the line is the stored energy.
